1 in 4 children in the UK are leaving primary school with limited reading skills. Kids from poorer backgrounds are struggling even more. Please do what you can to help, whether it’s sharing this picture to raise awareness of the problem, or donating £5 by texting BORROWERS to 70008 📚
Yesterday I received this big and beautiful book called ‘Print: Fashion, Interiors, Art’ by Simon Clarke, and it’s a fascinating look into print designs and artists across those different medias. Plus, that gorgeous cover art is actually fabric wrapped around the hardback book! I can’t stop stroking the cover 😍 Released this month from @laurencekingpub
In the UK 1 in 4 children are leaving primary education every year with very limited reading skills. Of children from poorer backgrounds 40% are still struggling to read by the time they leave primary school. And most of those kids NEVER catch up. That’s CRAZY. I had no idea the problem was that bad, and I don’t think many others do either.
I’m going to do what I can to help change that, together with Save the Children. Please share this video, tell your friends and family about the problem, and if you can donate £5 by texting BORROWERS to 70008, to help fund the support, books and additional reading helpers needed to make a big change. Let’s make sure that by 2025 EVERY child is reading well by the time they’re 11.
The Infinite Sea, book two in the #The5thWave series comes out on the 16th, so I’ve been thinking about the essentials I’d pack in case of the apocalypse. You know, just in case. So, of the items I found in my house in the past 5 minutes (the apocalypse waits for no one) I have…
1. A chunky book to keep me going (I’m assuming there’s no electricity so my Kindle is out)
2. Dry shampoo. Speaks for itself.
3. Swiss army knife for cutting, filing and tin opening
4. Chilli flakes, for the roadkill I’ll probably have to eat
5. Lots of paracetamol. I expect there to be pain.
6. A big-assed knife for chopping, cutting and stabbing (both food and enemies. It’s a dog eat dog apocalypse)
It’s bookshelf tour time! Grab a snack, it’s gonna be a long one…
I got far too many books again in August, I think I’m going to have to put myself on lockdown!
